Milwaukee

Hailing from the East side of Milwaukee, there are quite a few landmarks that have been a part of my upbringing and have played an influential role in shaping me as an individual. We have the Oriental Theatre (Saw Kidsthere when I wasn’t old enough. Score!), Oakland Gyros (The best gyro place anywhere. Ever.), Landmark (The best kept secret), Brady Street, and Pizza Man. Well, sadly, we don’t have Pizza Man anymore. The building caught fire early this morning. One of the oldest and best pizza joints in the city is gone.

The whole feel of Pizza Man was as old as the building. The interior consisted of dimly lit brick, wood walls that had carvings of who loves who and who to call for a good time in them, and a door that was weighted by bricks and a sack of potatoes. Character.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Its believed that the fire started in an apartment above the restaurant. Although the restaurant will no doubt be rebuilt, it will not soon be replaced.

R.I.P Pizza Man. What a guy.

I finally made it down to the art museum this weekend. I bought my ticket and strolled on into the Warhol exhibit. Just as I busted out my camera the guards swarmed me and said no flicks. Well, I got something for ya security guards…

I was able to snap a few flicks with my phone so excuse the quality. I snagged a few from the old google machine if they were too blurry. Enjoy.

Looks like Basquiat was hungry.

I thought my Jesus piece was so harmless….

This piece was especially fresh because of the sheer size (which I was unable to capture due to old rent a cop peaking around corners at me).

And more Basquiat. If you haven’t seen the movie, see it.

I wanted to get a picture of the Statue of Liberty piece lent by Bud Selig but the guards were well on to my antics by then. Either way it was dope seeing Warhol’s works upclose. There were a lot of screenprinted pieces and some of his more known works such as a Campbell’s can and the Marilyn Monroe piece. If you get the chance I suggest you check it out.

Milwaukee is known for a few things. Beer, Dahmer, being the drunkest city in the world, and Dahmer. Oh yeah and we have a pretty dope looking art museum.

The art museum currently is featuring a Warhol exhibit which I’ll be checking out tomorrow. The bad news is that I lost my camera. The good news is my lady found hers. And in more good news, the newest tees are now in the shop.

As I mentioned in a previous post I met up with Rob Owens this weekend. He called me and said to meet him in a parking lot in a park by a soccer field for a skate jam. Now either Rob was going to show me a new spot or he was pulling an old school Rob trick. Keep in mind he is known for drawing the male genitalia on peoples faces if they fall asleep.

We walked back to what looked to be a tennis court tucked away in the park. I’ve probably driven past this spot a hundred times and never knew it was there.

Anyone missing a bathtub?

Rob brought the entire Ownes clan. These kids have no fear.

Crazy little FMers.

Boooyah. The beginning. More to come but here are some flicks. Enjoy…
