L.A.

Here are some more photos of our trip out west. We were in San Diego, LA, and Vegas for a few hours. Those Vegas hours are mostly a blur.

After spending a day in San Diego we headed up to LA. I am always amazed by the LA traffic. There are 18 lanes, they are all packed, and everyone is going 70 mph.

As soon as we got into the city it started to pour. Californian’s hate the rain. I watched people run for cover and look up at the sky in disgust. I’d love to see what would happen with a foot of snow in SoCal.

We headed over to Melrose and Fairfax because that’s where all of the cool kids hang out. There was a pretty awesome spot called Canter’s Deli that has been there forever. If you are in the area, check this place out.

We checked out the Bape store, Kid Robot, The Hundreds, Johnny Cupcakes, Supreme, Diamond, and RVCA while we were on the block. Each one has it’s own feel, music, and look. You can get an idea of what each is about based on the vibe.

Another part of LA that I love is the graffiti. Although I didn’t see as much as I would have liked too, I did see a bunch along the freeway. It looks like these kids just stand out on the highway not worrying about a thing. Also I noticed that kids will climb up pretty high just to catch a tag.

Oh yeah and did I mention we have free shipping on all orders for a limited time?

As you are aware, FM is rooted in many sub-cultures. One that we have apprecieated and respected for as long as I can remember is the Graffiti culture. Apparently graffiti writers are also gang bangers. If you haven’t seen the latest L.A. Times article, it is now illegal for “vandals” to be seen in groups. So now you dont actually need to apply a medium to a surface to be breaking the law. If you have a notebook that you doodle in and happen to know more than one other person I suggest you stay out of L.A. because you are now commiting a crime. The same law that allows police officers to break up gangs and arrest gangmembers will now also apply to “Vandals”. In the article the officer of the law proclaims “The end of day” for the L.A. graffiti scene. In case they are not aware, the graffiti writer is most productive when the day comes to its end. I like to refer to this time as “Night”. R.I.P. L.A. Graffiti?

The KAWS Long Way Home exhibition went down in LA last week. Seeing a graffiti artist make such a big splash in the art world is encouraging. I used to look forward to the next 12 oz. prophet to catch the latest KAWS billboard and now he has lines stretching around the block to see his work. In this show he made a bust of his head, painted it with autobody paint, and dropped it on the floor? Dope. After watching interviews with the soft spoken Jersey kid and seeing how he made himself so available to his fans at his show, you cant help but get the feeling that he’s a pretty laid back individual.
